DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "Burlington Route Special, Galesburg, Ill." marked mvt, Grade 938, 17J, 18S, coin silver OF original case with gold inlaid train scene to rear, "Wilbur, Lanphear Co." marked white enamel DS dial, time-zone hour hands, SW-LS, two-tone gilt and nickel checkerboard and snowflake pattern nickel damascene, s#13820. A rare high grade railroad marked watch with one of Hamilton's most unusual and eye-catching two-tone damascene patterns. Wilbur, Lanphear Co. were Galesburg, Illinois jewelers and the "Wilbur, Lanphear Co." marked dial is correct to this piece. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two-tone color, few small scratches adjacent upper case screw, some typical mild micro-fine scratches elsewhere, balance jewel setting is a brass replacement; dial with faint hairline to upper portion of center section, small flake to upper rim of center hole, short fine scratch within left side of seconds-register, very small scratch to right side of center section; excellent hour hands and seconds-hand, fine minute hand with oxide and finish loss; case rear has been re-engraved, remainder of case shows medium to ample wear, no dents, few small mild nicks, re-engraved rear detail in superb crisp condition, "K. Bemis" is lightly scribed in small lettering below engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; clean plastic crystal.
